Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Institute of Acoustics

Cirrus Research is proud to be a Key Sponsor of the Institute of Acoustics, the UK’s professional body for those working in acoustics, noise and vibration and this week we’re celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Institute at the annual conference at the NEC, Birmingham.

Cirrus has been involved with the Institute of Acoustics, or IOA, for many years and with 2014 marking the 40th year of the Institute, we’re delighted to be continuing to support the IOA.

Our team will be on hand throughout the conference showing a range of both old and new noise measurement instruments, stretching back across the entire history of the IOA.

From the oldest valve powered noise meters, through to the first transistor powered instrument to the very latest Optimus sound level meters, there’s a display of instruments from Cirrus and other manufacturers stretching back over 40 years.

What is the Institute of Acoustics?

The Institute of Acoustics was formed in 1974 from the amalgamation of the Acoustics Group of the Institute of Physics and the British Acoustical Society (a daughter society of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers).

As Key Sponsors, Cirrus supports the Institute in a number of ways, with our staff regularly participating in a wide range of meetings, conferences and events. Many of our staff are members of the Institute at various grades and several of our current team are undertaking the IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.

The Institute has some 3000 members from a rich diversity of backgrounds, with engineers, scientists, educators, lawyers, occupational hygienists, architects and environmental health officers among their number. This multidisciplinary culture provides a productive environment for cross-fertilisation of ideas and initiatives.

The range of interests of members within the world of acoustics is equally wide, embracing such aspects as aerodynamics, architectural acoustics, building acoustics, electroacoustics, engineering dynamics, noise and vibration, hearing, speech, underwater acoustics, together with a variety of environmental aspects.

The lively nature of the Institute is demonstrated by the breadth of its learned society programmes.

More information about the Institute of Acoustics can be found on the website at www.ioa.org.uk

The status of Key Sponsor is held by Cirrus and one other company and is the highest level available as a sponsor, a position of which we are very proud.
