SoCAR Software for Motorsport Venues
SoCAR, an abbreviation of Sound Control at Raceways, is a system that was originally designed to measure, and help in the control of, noise created at Motor Racing Circuits. SoCAR is a simple program that allows the user to connect to a single noise monitor or Sound Level Meter at any time. The connection can be by direct connection or by modem, using a landline or GSM Cellular Modem.
The software provides a real time display of the noise level from a connected noise monitor. When the noise level being measured exceeds the preset threshold, an audible and visible warning alarm are produced. The noise event is then stored on the hard disk of the host computer, with the time, date and level being recorded.
Additionally, the software can produce a hardcopy of the event information to a suitable printer. The program displays the last noise event that has exceeded the threshold along with the time and date.
Also displayed is the metric currently used. For example Short LAeq, LAFmax, or LASmax. The choice of metric is usually determined in the specifications for the system, although the different hardware options, described below, can often support the different functions and can be changed by the user as required.
SoCAR is one member of a family of software suitable for use with the Cirrus Research plc Noise Monitors and Sound Level Meters. For full details compatible software programs and instruments, please contact Cirrus Research plc or your local representative.
