CR:110A doseBadge Personal Noise Dosemeter: Intrinsic Safety (IS)
Intrinsically Safe (I.S.) Version
An Intrinsically Safe version of the doseBadge, the CR:110AIS, is available. The CR:110AIS can be used in hazardous zones, for example in underground mines, petrochemical plants and other areas that require safe measurement equipment. Explosive atmospheres can be caused by flammable gases, mists or vapours or by combustible dusts and the CR:110AIS doseBadge is ideal for use in these types of environments.
The CR:110AIS has the same measurement functions as the standard CR:110A version and can be used in the same way as the standard version. For details of the measurements available please refer to the CR:110A doseBadge Datasheet. Click here to download the datasheet.
The CR:110AIS doseBadge meets the requirements of the ATEX Directive for both Mining and Non-Mining applications. In addition, the CR:110AIS carries IECEx, EEx, MSHA & SABS Certifications. Details of the certification are shown below.
The CR:110AIS doseBadge has been issued an IECEx Certificate by the Safety in Mines Testing and Research Station (Simtars) which is part of the Queensland Government in Australia. The IECEx Certification is for Ex ia I -20°C ≤ Ta ≤ +60°C and the certificate number is IECEx SIM 07.0004X.
For more details of the SIMTARS Certification please contact Mr Erik Fry at Instru-Labs.

Please note that only the CR:110AIS doseBadge and the accessories supplied with the unit are certified. Do not use any other accessories other than those supplied with the CR:110AIS unit. The RC:110A Reader unit, the CU:110A charger unit, and the RC:101A Keyfob Remote Control are not manufactured as intrinsically safe , and do not have IS approval and should not under any circumstances be operated in hazardous areas.
What is Intrinsic Safety?
As the name suggests, Intrinsic Safety refers to equipment and wiring that is inherently safe. In other words, an Intrinsically Safe system is one with energy levels so low that they cannot cause an explosion. The term hazardous area can be confusing. Hazardous area refers to any location with combustible materials such as gases, dusts, or fibres that might produce an ignitable mixture.
A hazardous area can be a sealed room filled with a volatile material or an area that is open to normal foot traffic, such as the area around a gasoline pump.In North America, hazardous areas are usually designated by classes, divisions, and groups, although the international system of zones and groups is becoming increasingly popular.
What is ATEX and EEx?
The ATEX Directive, named after the French “ATmosphere EXplosible”, is an EU (European Union) Directive which provides the technical requirements to be applied to equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
The Directive has been mandatory for all equipment of this type being sold in the European Union from the 1st July 2003.Any equipment that is sold in the EU which is designed to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres must carry an ATEX Approval.
