Company History

Founded in 1970, Cirrus Research plc has always specialised in the development and production of noise measurement instrumentation. The company provides comprehensive solutions for monitoring occupational and environmental noise, helping to identify and control problem areas. Cirrus is an award winning pioneer for acoustic technology, setting the standard which others have followed.

Cirrus Research milestones include the world's first Type 1 Data Logging Sound Level Meter, the first Type 1 Data Logging Real-Time Analyser, and the world's first twin channel Data Logging Dosimeter to meet the EC Directive 86/188/EEC in all respects. Cirrus Research Engineers were the first to publish the detailed specifications for the L3M and DP15 interfaces which were successfully used by several other Sound Level Meter manufacturers.

Cirrus Research plc has been awarded 7 separate research grants by the United Kingdom Department of Trade and Industry, under the MAPCON scheme (Micro-processor Applications) and SMART (Small Firms Merit Award for Research and Technology). These were firstly to design the original Short Leq Meter, the CRL 236, and then the CRL 243/1 Noise Monitoring Terminal.

In 1992, having met the strict requirements of the United Kingdom Department of Trade rules, Cirrus Research became a Public Limited Company, with the name, Cirrus Research plc. The registration number, directors and all other details remaining the same.

Cirrus Research plc have appointed authorised agents and distributors, both in the UK and overseas who can provide local sales and support for the range of products currently available.

Cirrus Research plc is a Key Sponsor of the UK Institute of Acoustics and a Member of the British Safety Industry Federation.
