Noise measurement in the construction industry

Measuring, assessing and controlling noise in the construction industry can often be a challenge. With workers who are moving around the site, noise sources that change from day to day, noise from vehicles opearting around the site as well as the general noise from construction activities, making noise measurements can often prove to be difficult.

Cirrus Research plc has a range of innovate noise measurement instruments designed to help companies carry out risk assessments, control noise levels and provide cost effective monitoring of their noise. Click on the links below to view a range of recommended noise measurement instruments.

Health & Safety - Noise at Work

In the UK, the Control of Noise at Work Regulations cover the noise exposure of employees and this applies to all areas of industry (with the exception of the Entertainment and Music Sectors which will come under these regulations in April 2008).

These regulations specify the limits of noise exposure that employees can be subject to along with the requirements put upon employers to assess, measure and control these exposures. Cirrus has a number of noise measurement instruments that have been specifically designed to assist in these tasks and a selection of these which are ideally suited to the construction industry are shown below.

doseBadge Noise Dosemeter CR:262 Sound Level Meter CR:822B Sound Level Meter Safety Officers' Noise Measurement Kits
The doseBadge is the ideal tool to measure the noise exposure of employees who are moving around or where the noise exposure varies. The CR:262 is a simple to use sound level meter that gives the measurements needed to comply with the Noise at Work Regulations The CR:822B is a data logging sound level meter. Measurements can be stored over long periods and downloaded to a PC for reporting. A combination of the doseBadge Noise Dosemeters and a Sound Level Meter in a single case providing a complete noise measurement solution

Environmental Noise - Assessment & Impact

Environmental noise is becoming more of an issue for site operators and companies. Complaints about noise nuisance from site operations, noise from vehicles as well as from the general construction activities are increasing year on year. Monitoring and measuring this as well as complying with noise limits specified in planning and operating conditions can often be time consuming. Cirrus has a range of instruments that can give the measurements needed with the miniumum level of support, training and difficulty.

Outdoor Measurement Kit CR:811B Sound Level Meter Safety Officers' Noise Measurement Kits
An outdoor measurement kit is the ideal solution for on-site noise measurements. The kit is weatherproof allowing 24 hour monitoring to be carried out as well as providing a Sound Level Meter that can be used for spot check measurements. The CR:811B is a Class 1 data logging sound level meter. Measurements can be stored over long periods and downloaded to a PC for reporting. The instrument can be used for Environmental and Health& Safety measurements A Safety Officers' Noise Measurement kit with a combination of the doseBadge Noise Dosemeter and a Data Logging Sound Level Meter covers both Environmental Noise and Health & Safety measurements.
